Celebrate Bike to Work Day
This day gives everyone, not just bike enthusiasts, a chance to try a new way of commuting while reaping the health benefits along the way. And now that Google Maps offers bike routes, you can safely find your way to the office.
Jared Rice, our VP of Technology, is no stranger to biking.
Just a few weeks ago he participated in a 12-mile bike ride in Rockville, Maryland. Even though his event provided homemade cookies at all of the rest stops along the way, this year’s Bike To Work Day offers plenty of perks that might entice you to dust off your bike as well.
What is Bike To Work Day?
Held this year on May 19th, bicyclist associations nationwide are set to celebrate bicycling as a clean, fun, and healthy way to get to work. Over 85 pit stop events will are being held throughout the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area alone, stocked with food, beverages, prizes, and excitement.
According to the League of American Bicyclists, 40% of all trips in the U.S. are less than two miles—making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get to work. And to boot, 166 million Americans are at risk from health effects of unhealthy air, according to a report from the American Lung Association. One more reason to swap your car for a bike, at least for one day.
