4 Tips for a Naturally Active Trip
Vacation is a time of relaxation and rejuvenation, but too much lounging and not enough movement can sometimes lead us to feel tired and lethargic. Even the smallest bit of physical activity can be re-energizing and help your body to feel better on your trip!
However, don’t put pressure on yourself to make physical fitness gains when on vacation. The goal of being active on vacation should be moving your body in fun and potentially new ways. You don’t even have to find a gym! Depending on your destination, you could try hiking, skiing, surfing, cycling on a tandem bike or playing beach volleyball, among other activities. Whether you’re on a business trip or vacation, moving your body can keep you feeling great and help you make the most out of your time away.
An active trip will leave you feeling your best during and after your adventures. Here are four ways to fit physical activity into your trip.
1. Explore on Foot
Whether it’s on the beach or around town, walking is an easy way to incorporate movement into your day. If it’s reasonably close, walk to your destination rather than drive. You’ll be active without trying!
2. Take the Stairs
If you’re in a hotel or somewhere that stairs are available, choose to use them over the elevator or escalator. Climbing stairs gets your blood pumping and fits naturally into your day.
3. Hit the Trails
Search the Internet or travel books for nearby parks or hiking trails. This is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and explore the area, and it also benefits your body and mind.
4. Make it Fun
No matter where you go, there are always opportunities for unique activities that will get you moving. If you’re at the beach, try taking a surfing lesson, playing games like volleyball or whiffle ball, or going for a bike ride through town. Rent a paddle board or kayak if you’re on a lake or bay. If you’re camping or near wooded areas, see if there are zip lining courses, rope courses or rock climbing parks!
