3 Ways to Add Mindfulness to your Workday

Posted by Leah Evert on 06.02.2017

Mindfulness has been the workplace wellness buzzword of 2017, and many corporations are realizing the benefits mindfulness practice can bring to the workplace.

Employees are often over-connected. They have multiple roles and responsibilities, and they’re consistently multitasking. Mindfulness practices can help employees streamline their thinking and improve their mood.

In addition to increasing happiness and reducing stress, mindfulness practices such as meditation have been linked to a reduction in blood pressure and even improved cognitive functioning.

Ready to start feeling the benefits of mindfulness?

It’s easy to add mindful practices into your workday. Here are three go-to tips:

  1. Start small. Schedule one or two three-minute breaks in your day where you simply stop what you’re doing and breathe. If you need to, add the sessions to your calendar.
  2. Be diligent about taking breaks. It’s important to change your vantage point several times a day. Stop your work, and eat lunch away from your desk. Walk to your coworker’s desk instead of using email. Take time to refill your water, and leave your phone at your desk. These small breaks help reset your mind throughout the day.
  3. Try group meditation. At WCS, we schedule meditations regularly where we follow a 5-10 minute guided practice. Using group sessions, it’s easier to stay accountable. We use all kinds of app-based guided meditations, as well as reputable sessions available on YouTube.
